The Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) is the recruitment body for Uniformed Armed Services like Sub-Inspector, Police Constable, Jail Warden, Rescue Services.
The recruitment body came into force by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1991. Every year the recruitment is done on the basis of availability of vacancies for different posts. The candidates are recruited after undergoing a long step-by-step recruitment process.
The candidates in each stage have to pass with desirable score to appear in next stage of examination. The organisation follows transparency in recruiting, however, there are open quotas and departmental reservations for certain eligible candidates.
TNUSRB Recruitment 2023
In the official notification released on 5 May 2023, the TNUSRB invited all the interested applicants for the direct recruitment for the posts of Sub-Inspectors of Police (Taluk, Armed Reserve & Tamil Nadu Special Police Men). The availability of vacancies as specified by the organisation is 615 along with 6 Backlog vacancies.
Candidates wishing to apply must fill the application form by 30 June 2023. Any application form received after the stipulated date shall not be entertained. The candidates need to apply online by visiting the official website of TNUSRB. Any mode of application other than online mode will be rejected. For written examination admit card will be issued to the eligible applicants, it could be downloaded from the respective website.

Vacancy Details
There are 615 available vacancies and 6 Backlog vacancies for the post of Taluk, AR, TSP. There are 364 vacancies and 2 Backlog vacancies for Tamil Nadu Police Subordinate Service (Taluk+AR). The vacancies are further reserved as 255 vacancies and 2 backlog vacancies are for men and 109 vacancies are for women. While the Tamil Nadu Special Police Subordinate Service (TSP) is 110 in number all of them are for men.
There are open quotas and departmental quotas for which the vacancies are reserved. For departmental quotas there are 123 vacancies reserved and for Open- Wards and Sports Quota 49-49 vacancies are reserved. For applicants eligible to apply for both quotas they have to tick “Both” on application form in the work experience column.
At every stage of examination 20% would be reserved on preferential basis for candidates who have studied in Tamil Nadu Medium colleges/schools.
Educational Qualification
The applicant must have a Bachelor’s Degree from any university recognised by UGC or Government in 10+2+3+4/5 pattern or 10+3+2/3 pattern. While candidates who have received their Bachelor’s Degree from any Open University are not eligible.
Age Limit
The recruiting body has set the age limit for the applicants. Candidates wishing to apply must attain the age of 20 years and should not exceed the age of 30 years on 01 July 2023. The candidates will be given age relaxation if they belong to certain reserved categories. The upper age limit for certain categories are:
- For Backward Class, Backward Class Muslim, Most Backward Class, Denotified Community- 32 years age
- SC/ST/ Transgender- 35 years age
- Destitute Widow- 37 years age
- Ex- Servicemen, Ex-personnel of Central Armed Force, Military Personnel- 47 years age
- Candidates with 20% departmental quota- 47 years age
The communal reservation and reservation for women will be as per the Community Certificate issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu as follows:
- Open Competition- 31%
- Backward Class- 26.5%
- Backward Class Muslim- 3.5%
- Most Backward Class/ Denotified Communities- 20%
- Scheduled Caste- 15%
- Scheduled Caste Arunthathiyar- 3%
- Scheduled Tribe- 1%
Recruitment Process
The recruitment will be in four stages- Written Test, Certificate Verification and Physical Test, Viva and Special Marks. The Written Test will be of two parts: I and II. Part I will be of 100 marks for both Open Quota and Departmental Quota. While part II will be of 70 marks objective type for open quota and 85 marks objective type for departmental quota. Physical Endurance and Measurement Test is qualifying in nature for both the quotas. Viva examination is of 5 marks and Special Marks are 5 marks.
